Small projects initiate big plans for cloud computing

Companies that have started their relationship with cloud computing through a series of small projects have found it easier to make larger implementations down the road, according to Network World.
By making the move in small steps, a chief information officer can gauge which programs or services work best and identify other areas of the company that could use cloud computing. SaaS has been among the best places to start for several companies as vendors offer productivity suites and services like customer relationship management, which are especially well-suited to cloud computing.
"What we‘re seeing is a lot of companies using Google Apps and Salesforce and other SaaS, and sometimes platform-as-a-service providers, to support specific applications," David Tapper, outsourcing and offshoring analyst for IDC, told the news provider. "A lot of those services are aimed at consumers, but they‘re just as relevant in business environments."
Many experts within cloud computing have noted that companies should move slowly into the cloud in order to avoid tying themselves into relationships that can hurt their progress. Focusing on vendors with proven records of high capability and flexibility is best as organizations reshape their IT operations.
